AS A PROPORTION of our nation make the weekly trek to the food banks they will no doubt be gratified to know that their journey is about to become easier knowing that our government are to spend 72 billion pounds on HS 2.
They will be delighted to know that passengers travelling to and from Birmingham and London will arrive a massive 30 minutes earlier as a result.
They will rejoice in the fact that the private sector; who run our railways; will be the beneficiaries of this investment without having to stump up any of their profits to support it.
Call me old fashioned but I would have thought with available technology such as video conferencing and home-working, we should be looking to reduce the commute not increasing it.
I am certain there are more important areas of our economy that would benefit from such a massive investment.
