RE: CANCELLATION of our bus service. The bus service for the “Woodlands” Malpas was cancelled recently. There is now no bus service to enable the elderly and people who live in the Woodlands area to travel to Newport, after having four buses an hour to having no bus service at all. We now have to pay £14 for a return taxi just to go into town once a week, plus the extra costs of taxi fares to visit the doctors, dentist, chiropodist and hairdresser. How are we supposed to support Newport town centre with these added costs with just our pensions as our only income? We have contacted the city transport department, our local councillors and our MP Paul Flynn regarding this and suggested one bus per hour would suffice. Paul Flynn’s office said that he would pass this on to our local councillors, but as of yet no reply. We pay high rates and should be entitled to a bus service of at least one an hour. Malpas does not have the service of the NAT buses and daily we can see many buses to Malpas Park, Whittle Drive, and Bettws running virtually empty so why cannot the 17 or 18 Malpas Park, Pilton Vale or 19 Writtle Drive provide us with one bus service per hour.
