I WOULD like to congratulate those responsible for the stunning Christmas lights in Friars Walk and the Kingsway Centre also Debenhams for their very attractive Christmas windows and the Shaw Trust Charity shop on Llanarth Street for their Christmas window display.
I think that the gold trees in John Frost Square are stunning too!
How disappointing though are the Christmas lights on Commercial Street and the Christmas tree at the bottom of Bridge Street.
Commercial Street looks a sorry site now that all the big stores that had attractive Christmas windows have gone.
I was in town at 4pm earlier this week.
The Christmas lights were not on.
The tree looked bare and sorry for itself.
I was told that the lights do not come on until late afternoon.
What is the point of having the Christmas lights come on at a time when most people are heading for home?
If this is Newport Council playing Scrooge, would they at least have the tree lights come on at mid-day or decorate the tree so that it looks Christmassy when the lights are off?
Santa will not be very impressed with the way it looks at the moment!
