I WOULD like to address some of the inaccurate information that has been circulated following a number of flooding incidents at Greenmeadow Way in Cwmbran. The severe flooding experienced in recent months is a direct result of damage to a connection from the highway drainage to the public sewer, caused during construction of the adjacent housing estate. It has not been caused by an over loaded sewer system, or by blocked drains.
We have been pressing the developer, Taylor Wimpey, to complete this repair work for some time but it has not been carried out as quickly as we would have expected. To serve notice on the company would have been potentially a long and costly process, and one which we hoped to avoid if possible.
Thankfully contractors working on behalf of Taylor Wimpey have now started working to repair the damage. The work will take a number of weeks to complete but will alleviate the problem of localised flooding on this stretch of road. In the meantime Taylor Wimpey has a responsibility to keep the highway free from flood water caused by this issue and water pumps will remain on hand to respond if necessary until their work is complete.
