I REALISE local authorities have resorted to inventive ways of raising income, but I simply must have a say regarding Cardiff.
I am a disabled pensioner.
On the weekend of December I travelled to Cardiff to support The Oxfam Open a fencing charity fundraiser at The Cardiff Fencing Academy, Ocean Way, Cardiff and visit my husband’s brother in Caerleon.
The event raised £2,500 for the charity.
I travelled to Cardiff on Saturday, December 10, in my car which is registered with DVLA as having a Blue Badge.
I was driven by my 61-year-old carer.
At that time the area was very quiet for a city as large as Cardiff and there was no buses in sight (the picture they sent me shows this).
My driver strayed into the bus lane, no buses were inhibited and no traffic jam to cause an obstruction.
Cardiff it would seem have cameras to ensure the people of Cardiff can travel unimpeded and if they cross a line can be “mugged” and then if they do not pay swiftly they get more demands with menaces’.
The Christmas post meant there was no time to appeal before the fine increased.
So I have parted with £35 of my disability allowance at Christmas time.
I am disgusted and disappointed that a capital city council should raise money like this.
Cardiff is a shameful place not worth to be in the great county of Wales, perhaps Wrexham should be reinstated as capital as it was when my husband was young.
I will of course return to Wales but Cardiff is another matter. Sorry Oxfam.
Up the County!
