IT’S very good news that our Labour-led Welsh Government has launched a £500,000 scheme for children in deprived areas of Wales to enjoy summer holiday clubs, including free meals and activities (Argus, January 3).
This initiative can contribute towards closing the gap between pupils from deprived communities and more prosperous areas.
I’m keen to secure some of this welcome investment for Pontllanfraith, to benefit children on the relatively-deprived Penllwyn estate.
Staff at Penllwyn Primary School are already doing brilliant work with local pupils.
This new initiative could help even more.
