I’LL admit I am of a generation that were used to seeing warrant card carrying, trained and vetted police on their feet on our streets. In that distant historical past the, expenses-only, council members had a watch committee, their brief, watch the police. Police were part of the community they policed, as were those whose duty it was to watch them. Today’s private, (have to fine you to pay my wage) but tax paid for no warrant card, of unknown training and vetting individuals are not police and while the authority’s claim ratepayer’s money is being saved, is it?
Or is it another example councils contracting out their responsibilities and rate payer’s money being syphoned off into the bank accounts of owners or share holders rather than kept within the authority? Millions are spent on duplicated positions, panels and committees.
Feet on the street not bums on seats is what protects communities.
