I WANTED to respond to the comments made by Councillor Keith Reynolds, Labour leader of Caerphilly Council concerning the motion of no confidence in the leader (Argus, January 18). Councillor Reynolds seemed to suggest that I was somehow trying to sully the reputations of members of the investigation and disciplinary committee members that took the decision to convert the officers’ suspension to special leave. He must be living in a parallel world. The concern of the Plaid Cymru group was that the change of status was deliberately kept from the full council by Councillor Reynolds. There would certainly be no breach of confidentiality if the change of status had simply been reported to the council. This secrecy is typical of the way the Labour controlled council has operated in relation to the senior officers’ pay scandal, something that has cost every residents millions of pounds of public money. That’s millions of pounds that should have been spent on frontline services. The people of Caerphilly county borough will get the opportunity in May to give their verdict on Labour’s pay scandal.
