I AM APPALLED to see that the MyTravelPass scheme will soon be stopped.
This is yet another example of a decision made that will hit the young people in our community.
The Welsh Government have covered themselves by stating that the scheme, which gives a third off bus fares anywhere in Wales, was only a “pilot” strategy but currently there is no compelling evidence of any inclination for a replacement initiative in the future.
It is vital that we encourage the younger generation to use public transport and decisions like this will only turn them away.
The best way to promote more usage by youngsters will always be to cut travel costs.
What’s even more unnerving is the fact that Newport city council does not offer any similar service, whilst other local authorities do.
It is absolutely necessary to stand up for the youngsters in our city and put a comparable strategy in place as soon as possible.
