I SEE Newport’s mythical business prevention officer has been at it again, this time in two car parks in the city centre.
The city has plenty of car wash businesses and a great need for car parking spaces, so what better way to increase that need for more parking than to take away 37 spaces with, wait for it, two car wash operations, this time 19 spaces in that not over-blessed car park underneath Debenhams and 18 on the first floor above ground level at the Kingsway multi.
Friars Walk has turned out to be a surprisingly successful idea, but, losing 37 car parking spaces for people to use it isn’t.
It is the Oscars season, so what better way to describe these daft decisions than a line from ‘Forest Gump’: ‘Stupid is as stupid does’.
