ON READING the letter sent my Mrs Nocivelli dated 28th February regarding steelworkers pension I felt I had to add to her comments. I worked with Mrs Nocivelli’s husband for many years and I could not agree more about the shift patterns. I worked these shifts for almost 38 years and yes we looked forward to our one weekend off a month and yes it was a million miles away from a nine to five job.
As for night shifts the winter months were very cold and uncomfortable.
For me personally I was fortunate to be able to take early retirement with my pension and the men I worked with for many years deserve their pension, after a lifetime in the steel industry they have earned the right to leave the industry in good health and have time to spend some of their hard earned pension.
