WITH the announcement of a snap general election it is time to concentrate on the early details of the political parties manifestos.

The Conservatives have cast doubts on the continuation of former promises not to increase tax, vat or national insurance contributions. Following the budget debacle of the U-turn with regard to class 2 national insurance contributions, it is clear these policies are likely to be jettisoned to free-up the chancellors options to raise money for other projects; add the possible removal of the triple lock on pensions; sweeping away the last remnants of Camerons administration; we are likely to experience a deepening of austerity for another 5 years.

With a seemingly unassailable 20+ points lead over the other parties and the so-called Labour opposition in meltdown, I fear for the future. Who are to challenge them? The answer is the voting public.

When you vote, forget the personalities and concentrate on the issues then whoever governs us will deserve our support. W

We have proved as a nation that we are able to make important decisions based on fact, it is time to show that level of understanding again.
