X1B Newport to Cwmbran. Just what Newport needs, another bus company.

Newport’s communities would be better served by our local authority if they looked up the meaning of the word “service.” “A system supplying a public need such as transport, communications, or utilities.”

The emphasis is on public need. I don’t agree with the 24/7 system but a service that enabled rate paying workers an affordable public means of getting to work in the early morning and home after a night out should not be too much so ask, should it? The buses are there but not shared across the communities at times beneficial to the public.

Duffryn Drive has five buses a hour city bound provided by three companies, I’ve never seen one more than half full. In other areas you have to phone 24 hours in advance, I am told.

Our public transport system should be judged by the daily service it provides to the community not by the number of buses running along a few routes at limited times for the benefit of the bus and taxi companies.
