THANK you for publishing my request and photograph on May 8 in Grassroots.
The response was all I could have asked for and I am very grateful for the ladies, of whom appeared in the photo, taking the trouble to phone me with the information I wanted.
It seems this group of people were from the Newport Youth Council and were setting out on a trip to Dinard, Near St Malo in Brittany, France.
They stayed in a camp at a place called Saint Enogat which has a beach nearby.
The trip was a sort of international gathering of young people from countries like the Netherlands, Germany etc to promote international cooperation.
The only thing I haven’t been able to determine is the date of the trip as understandably those who have contacted me are in their eighties and this was well over 60 years ago! Newport Youth Council still exists but I’m sure their records go back that far!
