As a result of the recent horrendous fire in the London tower block, people are expressing concern over the safety of the three residential tower blocks owned by Newport City Homes.

I live in the Greenwood tower block and would like to make it known that in all three tower blocks - All floors and stairwells are concrete, United Living has recently painted all communal areas with fire retardant paint, have installed new fire doors in communal areas, installed new heat and smoke detectors, all flats and communal areas have been rewired, the cladding and insulation installed are both fire-retardant and fire breaks between floors have been upgraded.

In addition to this, regular fire safety checks are carried out to fire equipment, emergency lighting, electrical safety and smoke alarms and NCH knows that the fire service’s mobile platform can reach the top of the blocks and the South Wales Fire Service carries out annual training exercises in each block.

I think it fair to say that all that can be done to ensure the safety of residents in the tower blocks has been done.

My thoughts and concerns to those who have lost their lives and to those who have lost all their possessions in this tragedy.
