PLANNING Application 16/1240 Proposed Zip Wires, Lower Usk Valley.
Ok for the quick-thrill joyriders who would selfishly whoop and scream their ways across the Usk Valley landscape whilst filling the Celtic Manor coffers with gold - but not for those who get their kicks by looking down from the Usk Valley Walk at the amazing view of the Caerleon floodplain.
(What would be the point of this much-lauded right-of-way if it’s pleasures were to be diluted by such creeping urban developments).
Neither for the wildlife such as cormorants, herons and flocks of wild Canada geese etc. which would be on collision course with the four wires and tall towers of this unnecessary visually and audibly intrusive device.
Nor for the locals whose tranquil lives would be ruined by its daily racket.
In the words of Newport’s world-famous poet, W H Davies, “What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare...?”
