AT LAST! The negotiation to extricate ourselves from the Federal States of Europe have begun therefore the British people can expect a plethora of media and political commentators to keep us up to date with any progress.

Judging by the reaction of Messrs Juncker and Tusk to Mrs May’s proposal regarding EU citizenship one cannot expect a smooth transition back to our nation state.

It appears that the other side are demanding that EU citizens must be granted perpetual rights under European law even if they decide to become permanently resident in the UK and subject to our laws whilst availing themselves of our national health service, pensions and other benefits.

I am open to challenge but I do not know of any country that would apply the laws of another when it becomes necessary to administrate a person who has chosen to live permanently in that country as a naturalised citizen.

On a practical note; in Italy there is no right to lawyer before a case is heard by a magistrate and the French have all but ceased trial by jury so how would the justice system work under a duel system.

When people make a choice to live here they are subject to our laws.

They also have the choice to be repatriated to the country of birth if they so wish. Simple!
