MIGHT I pass a comment on the current car parking charges within the major towns of Monmouthshire? In the context of parity with other similar sized boroughs, one must agree that £1 for two hours is a very fair charge.

There are of course other optional charges for longer stays, and the ‘overstay’ facility offered at the pay point. Would it be beyond the wit of the councillors who are responsible for setting the charge levels, to offer a ‘short stay’ option?

There are, and there will always be car park users who may simply need to pop to the bank, post office, chemist or wherever taking just a few minutes to conclude their business but having to pay a £1 parking charge.

We will all be aware of the few free parking places offered in the main car park in Chepstow offering a 30 minute stay, but equally we will be aware of the queue (often jamming part of the car park) for those few free spaces, which I believe would justify offering a less expensive option of a lower ‘short stay’ charge.

It would be good to have a councillor’s views on this.
