The South Wales Argus has called it right when it says it’s “time to lift the public sector pay cap” (Argus Comment, June 29). It’s certainly true that “many of those working in the public sector have simply had enough”.
For years, Tory austerity has meant below-inflation pay awards (in effect, pay cuts) for thousands of firefighters, police, NHS staff, local government workers and civil servants.
If the recent general election result tells us anything, it’s that people have had enough of austerity and public service cuts. Let’s give our public sector workers a decent pay rise, and let them spend more in our local economy.
