“FIRE check being made” in the South Wales Argus on 30th June.
Report on fire safety in local tower blocks - quote Newport City Homes - “Resident safety is our priority and we have spoken with those residents who live in our tower blocks to answer any questions they may have. We have knocked doors in every flat.”

As a resident of one of the tower blocks, I would like to correct this statement - no member of Newport City Homes staff has knocked doors on every flat in Greenwood. Written information was posted through the letterbox of every resident on 14th, 16th and 28th June.

The first face to face contact with Newport City Homes staff was made on 29th June (two weeks after the Grenfell fire) when a surgery was held within the block and residents were issued with direct contact details for the member of staff holding the surgeries.

Fire officers attended the block on 23rd June to carry out an inspection and on 28th June with Newport City Homes staff. To date, as far as I am aware, no cladding has been removed for testing.

Also, Newport City Homes has not informed all residents that they have changed their main call handling system. All calls are now held in a queue and residents have to be prepared for a long wait for their call to be dealt with even if their call is urgent as I experienced for myself on two recent occasions and I know that others have too!
