THANKS to the Argus for publicising my trip to Argentina for the re-opening of the Boca Transporter Bridge, after over half a century of inaction and decay, and for the International Congress of World Transporter Bridges, which unanimously voted to urge the governments of Spain, France, Germany and the UK to apply to UNESCO to extend the World Heritage Status enjoyed by the original Bilbao Bridge in Spain to the other seven remaining bridges.

Thanks is also due to the kind people of Newport without whom the trip would not have happened.

A number of local firms and individuals contributed towards to £1,500 cost, agreeing that it would have been a shame if Newport had not been represented, bearing in mind the tourist value of World Heritage Status.

Particular thanks is due to the anonymous cash donor, whose remarkably generous donation enabled me to book the trip while additional and promised donations were awaited.

World Heritage Status may be some time off but at least we have made a start and Newport has played its part.
