DURING my research of the war dead of Newport, I have photographed many memorials to them in churches, schools, businesses, etc.
I have however found references to a memorial to Albert E Bush of 114, Shaftesbury Street, killed at Cambrai, France on March 23, 1918, being displayed in the basement of the Royal Gwent Hospital.
Surely this memorial to a man who made the ultimate sacrifice should be displayed in a public area of the hospital, not hidden away, where his bravery and ultimate sacrifice can be honoured by many as he so rightly deserves especially as the 100th anniversary of his death will soon be upon us.
If there are any family members of Albert reading this, can they please contact me on 01633 856235 or shaunmcguire1@aol.com
