NEWPORT City Labour Council is considering “appropriating” an area (0.41 acres) of open parkland on the Glebelands, St Julians, Newport.

Who or what is the council grabbing this land from? Could it be our public parkland or is this the land which the council gift-wrapped to developers so long ago as part of the Glebelands Plan?

The plan included the Glan Usk Primary School (per PFI) - now in use, multiple housing-several builders pulled out, and improved access to the school’s Bank Street direct route, which includes the narrow hump-back railway bridge.

The Bank Street road surface remains increasingly unfit for purpose and dangerous for school children, parents and local residents!

If this latest Glebelands proposal to create a residential development and ancillaries get approval, will the Newport Labour City Council guarantee less air pollution and greater safety on our streets, especially in the Caerleon Road and local residential areas?

Comments or objections can be emailed to: joanne.evans@newport.gov.uk by 5pm on March 23, 2018, or inspect plans at the Civic Centre or write to head of law and regulation (reference JPE).
