IT’S a fallacy to believe that WW1 ended on the November 11, 1918, because it still continued long after that date for 10’s of thousands of families in the UK and millions worldwide on all sides of the conflict.

Men and women were still on active service after the armistice was signed and died whilst on service and there are many of those that died from wounds received during the conflict.

In Newport between November 11, 1918, and August 31, 1921, the final date for someone to be classified as war dead, 112 Newport men and 3 women died and for their families the war was still on going.

I know of other people that died after these dates including in the 1930’s from wounds received during WW1 but they are not classified as war dead and Armistice Day should be looked upon as the beginning of the end of WW1 and not the end.
