It is frequently the case that we see in your letters column contributions from Blackwood Cllrs Farina-Child’s and Kevin Etheridge. Often because of some lack of substance to these letters I question whether their frequent contributions are because they are showing genuine concern about local issues or whether they are carrying out an arrogant and egotistic attempt to steal the limelight at every opportunity.

At the most recent council (March 28) meeting it was certainly their sincerity and commitment that was put to the test when a vote was taken to finance the retention of Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre for the coming year until a Leisure Strategy for the authority is completed.

Both Cllrs Farina-Child’s and Kevin Etheridge along with Plaid Cymru voted against a revised budget proposal to keep Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre open.

Their credibility must be put to question. If they had won the vote their action would have resulted in the immediate closure of Pontllanfraith!
