IN A RECENT news story, the Argus referred to “the Pontllanfraith area of Blackwood”.
Pontllanfraith is a separate village from Blackwood, with our own electoral ward, and a similar size population to our Sirhowy valley northern neighbour.
Blackwood may have its Stute and Chartist Bridge, but we in Pontllanfraith have our St Tudor’s Church, Mynyddislwyn; Captain Morgan’s Penllwyn Manor; the Gelligroes Old Mill; and the famous Switchgear factory, which over the years must have employed thousands of Islwyn residents.
