WE HAVE watched with interest the improvements to the New Inn roundabout on the A4042.
All seemed to be going well until the signage appeared when it became apparent that traffic travelling on the A4042 would be expected to merge into one lane before entering the roundabout unless it was travelling to New Inn.
Travelling south towards Newport from Pontypool when still in the two lane area, the left hand lane is clearly indicated as New Inn only. And only at the entry to the roundabout does a second lane open up for the A4042.
This herding into one lane is going to cause bad temper and accidents.
Travelling north from Croesyceiliog a similar situation occurs where the left hand lane is indicated as a filter for the A4051 and A4042 traffic is herded into the centre lane.
Only at the entry to the roundabout does a third lane start and this is labelled for New Inn and A4042.
Once again this will cause bad temper and accidents.
Already vehicles are using the inside lanes and cutting across the filters to stay on the A4042.
Who is responsible for this traffic management nightmare?
