History lesson for councillor

2:57pm Monday 20th May 2013

CLLR Nigel Dix should check his facts. Mrs Thatcher did not sign the Maastricht Treaty. She left office in 1990.

Take the bull by the horns

2:56pm Monday 20th May 2013

IT’s good of the Argus to offer support to Simon Gibson, the chairman of the taskforce that wants to transform Newport’s fortunes.

Assembly is massive waste

2:54pm Monday 20th May 2013

AT A time when the people of Newport are having public services cut, libraries shutting, it amazes me how we can continue to support a Welsh assembly government that is draining our frontline services of so much money. In 1997 the Welsh office cost £78m a year to run.

Ship has added to knowledge

2:53pm Monday 20th May 2013

OVER the years I’ve enjoyed the (I hope friendly) tussle with Julian Powell on the letters page concerning the Newport Ship. Lately, I’m sorry to read his text becoming increasingly bitter. I find this hard to understand as in other letters Mr Powell has expressed his lament at the diminution of funding and provision of art and culture in our city.

Looking for ways forward

2:52pm Monday 20th May 2013

I WISH to assure Cllr Gez Kirby (Letters, May 14) that I am not seeking to blame: I am seeking to inspire. I understand that the Friends of the Newport Ship are conducting a feasibility study on forming a charity that will work on securing completion of the conservation and exhibition of the ship.

Shocked at city's decline

2:51pm Monday 20th May 2013

MY WIFE and I are Newportonians who moved to England in 1970.

Dylan Thomas is right name

3:37pm Friday 17th May 2013

AS THE proud owners of the multi-million Cardiff Airport via the Welsh Assembly, the people of Wales should have a say in a name change. Other successful airports have changed names – John Lennon Liverpool, George Best Belfast etc, so the most eye-catching name for our airport must be ‘Dylan Thomas Wales Airport’, hopefully included in the planned revamp by several promising Welsh artists.

High cost of a traveller's site

3:36pm Friday 17th May 2013

IN THESE cash-strapped times with Newport’s infrastructure crumbling around our ears, there is one burning question that I am sure must have occurred to us all.

Police risks are known

3:35pm Friday 17th May 2013

ONE hopes that Home Secretary Teresa May was just trying to appear tough, when she addressed the Police Federation.

Club's done so very well

3:34pm Friday 17th May 2013

I WOULD just like to congratulate Bettws RFC on a fine season which has culminated in a second place finish and play-off promotion match. Well done to all concerned and best wishes for next season.
