ON BEHALF of the Gwent Greens I would like to thank all our helpers and supporters for the terrific work they did in the local election campaign. I would also like to thank the many voters who understand the overwhelming need for transition to a sustainable society, and have joined our rapidly increasing Green membership.

Green canvassers are scientists, teachers, mathematicians, sixth formers and thinking people – people who understand what is really at stake. They gave up much of their precious time to knock on doors and make sure every voter had a leaflet. We may not have won a seat, but we will continue to work with all parties to stabilise climate change and enable an economy fit for the future.

It is worrying that most people did not vote. It is even more worrying that those who did continued to vote for themselves and not the generations to come.

We wish the new administration every success, and look forward to working with them on the formation of policies for a sustainable society. Sadly, by the time people understand that this is what they need, it will probably be too late.
