THERE was an item on the TV concerning the problem of litter and one local council showed their appreciation to a volunteer litter-picker by providing him with the equipment to carry out his good work. Good job he didn’t live in Newport.

I tried years ago to at least get a ‘helping hand’ to make the job of picking up litter, which I do most days, easier, but no joy. When I put the letter in the Argus, a very kind man who had read the article gave me a brand new ‘helping hand’.

I suppose I shouldn’t expect anything from the council, because even the council employees have to purchase their own ‘helping hands’.
