MAY I give warning of the dealings of the Royal Mint’s Jubilee department at Pontyclun in Wales.

In early March, responding to their literature received by post, I ordered a silver Diamond Jubilee £5 coin priced at £39.50, as a welcome gift to a family baby expected to be born in August. It arrived duly and I paid for it via my credit card.

Today, I have received, quite unsolicited, a further silver coin priced at £79. As a result, I have had to make a lengthy phone call, being held in ‘the queue’ awaiting a voice to respond to my query for several minutes. (I had to make the call to ensure that my credit card would be reimbursed, rather than being credited to ‘customer account with them), and am further instructed to return the coin and its packaging via Post Office special delivery (at £6 a time), all at my expense.

At no time did I ever indicate that I considered purchasing further coins in the collection. I have this morning instructed my bank to put a closure on any further payments to this company.
