Enough mess on the streets

First published in Letters

WE HAVE had pet dogs in my family for a very long time and like many owners we treat them kindly, with discipline and dispose of any mess.

I cannot understand why Matthew Pimm (Argus June 8) expects dogs to be allowed into shops, banks, pubs etc. Newport City Council allows dogs into our shopping centre streets, bus station etc, with dog mess deposits strewn about in these areas.

Our residential pavements are disgustingly plastered with dogs’ mess, which lays there for days and weeks thanks to irresponsible owners and an apparent lackadaisical attitude by Newport City Council. I wonder what the Keep Wales Tidy campaigners are doing about the scandal of dogs’ mess in Newport?
