AND just where exactly did people get the notion that same-sex union is ‘unnatural’ and worthy of intervention and exclusion from society? I think we all know the answer to that one. Our views on premarital and non-procreation sex have nothing to say about the love shared between human beings, and since when did ‘love’ play by the rules anyway? Those who harbour homophobic views about same-sex marriage should be happy to know that the homosexuals show a great desire for the same monogamous lifestyle and family values as themselves.
I don’t think that gay couples would want their special day spoiled by a judgemental and resentful minister, I think it would be far more likely that they would select the most welcoming and ultimately enterprising churches and register offices to spend their money with. If the cost of such legislation comes at an inconvenient time then surely it is a sign that the government thinks that human rights are important.
