THURSDAY morning, June 21. Watching breakfast TV and wondering why the devil the Olympics is being referred to as the London 2012 Festival, when an old buddy, Ian McMillan, celebrity poet and announcer, is given the opportunity to comment on it and does so in his typically blunt Yorkshire manner.
“We don’t need the word London in it,” he tells us. “In Scunthorpe, we know where it is, in Barnsley, we know where it is. Surely we don’t need the word ‘London’. We just need the word ‘festival’, that’ll be enough.”
Any wonder the rest of Britain gets fed up to the back teeth of London?
Go ahead, Wales, insist on flying your red dragon and to hell with London.
As a Yorkshireman, I’m 100 per cent behind you.
