Olympics athletes not worthy of knighthoods

It appears that the Commons is debating a reduction in the number of members in the House of Lords. They had better get a move on.

With the Olympics coming soon, they will need the seats for those awarded the highest accolade this country can bestow, simply for riding a bike, running, jumping, throwing things or even maybe falling headfirst from a plank into a pool of water, albeit quite gracefully.

Instead of giving knighthoods , why not introduce a new title for Olympians, say Lord of the Rings and Lady of The Lamp and issue them with ermine-trimmed tracksuits.

They should leave the knighthoods to those who really deserve them. That criteria in itself, would reduce the numbers considerably.

Er... Knights don't sit in the House of Lords just by virtue of being Knights.
