I WAS very pleased to see that my recent letter (Argus, July 6) regarding the forthcoming election of Gwent’s first Police and Crime Commissioner attracted a response fromIan Johnston, an independent candidate for the newpost. Firstly, let me say that I have the greatest respect for Mr Johnston and know of his distinguished Police career.

While I suspect we may not agree on all aspects of the new post, I think we do agree more needs to be done to engage with the public and raise awareness of this extremely important election.

It will be up to the voters who they vote for on November 15, but I would urge people to take a close look at the candidates and make the effort to go out and vote on the day. I would like to extendmybest wishes to Mr Johnston and the other candidates and hope that the best man wins.
