I WOULD like to express the thanks of the Royal British Legion firstly to Ms S Moore, a local artist who presented a limited edition print, the 11th of 12, to Newport’s RBL Poppy Appeal, to raise funds for said appeal, on Saturday at the RBL fun day held in John Frost Square.

It was raffled and raised £164 – wonderful!

Secondly, we at the RBL would like to thank all those who worked so hard to make the day a success: the riggers, the groups, the singers, the husky dogs and their handlers; those who made bucket collections and anyone else who helped for free, either with time or equipment and not forgetting the pretty little girl who was good enough to draw the winning ticket in the raffle.

While on the subject of poppies, I would like, on behalf of the RBL, to thank Mr Vaughn Thomas, the retired headteacher of Corporation Road School, for all the effort he has put in to ensuring the young pupils learn about the Poppy Appeal and the wonderful Service of Remembrance he held every year, and last but by no means least, thanks to all who donated.
