Remember the few who fought

SEPTEMBER 15 commemorates Battle of Britain day. Winston Churchill said of those who fought in it (a total of 510 fighter pilots died, 407 British, in those few months of 1940 in the skies above southern England): “Never in the history of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.” They effectively stopped the Third Reich from invading Britain.

We should pause in silent thanks to those who gave their lives and saved us from Hitler’s advance. None more so than those who seek succour, asylum and freedom in our country and seemingly take it for granted and particularly those who abuse that freedom. Those with nationalistic tendencies who would split the UK into devolved insignificant areas should also appreciate their freedom to try.
