Christ warned of apostasy

TERRY Banfield (Letters, September 7) is quite correct in his comments on the nefarious activities of the church.

But his one-dimensional comments are not comprehensive enough. Christ and his apostles warned that the church would, through apostasy, become what it was not meant to be, eg, “..there is a time coming when whosoever kills you will think he is serving God.” John 16:2). So it has proved.

A religion born of persuasive truth became a monolithic persecuting power. We need to separate that church from its founder. But what of the influence of Christ himself and the manifold good works that have been and are being done in his name? Because of him druggies are now clean, drunkards are now sober, thieves are now honest, and lives are transformed completely for the better. No bad thing for a conviction which is supposed to be, according to the unhappy Richard Dawkins, the root of all evil.

Why can't people be nice to each other without the need of a book of folklore of the imaginary cloud man? The bible is full of violently contradictory nonsense and should not be used as the last word to justify anything.

religion is a crock whichever one you support and should be banned but faith is real.
