The Assembly’s draft Human Transplantation Bill – ‘Presumed consent’ – may seem a good idea to those who see this only as a means of saving useful body parts from going to waste, but this is more than that. It’s a matter of ownership of the deceased’s body.
At no point does it become the property of the Assembly or a health authority for the purpose of harvesting spares. So, without prior consent, they would be wise to keep their
thieving hands off. The message is
clear: If this Bill ever becomes law, to avoid the body snatchers, make sure you expire over the border.
