MP right on Afghanistan

MP Paul Flynn has to be commended for his claims made with regard to the (what I consider) slow-motion car crash that is this country’s pointless military involvement in Afghanistan .

That Philip Hammond states that our military commitment will remain unchanged and will carry on until 2014 is an obvious invite for the Taliban to increase attacks against our forces. We entered this country ostensibly to find Osama bin Laden. We then became joint ‘nation-builders’. This in a society of patchwork tribal groupings that historically is anything but and never will be a nation in the western sense.

As one recently returned British soldier said: “All we control is as far as we can shoot a rifle”. This after ten years of operations. That more service personnel will die to save the reputation of a morally repugnant government that sets more store in face-saving than saving British and Afghan lives speaks volumes. That Mr Flynn has the courage to give voice to his opinion and then gets censured also speaks volumes!

As it happens I do not agree with Paul Flyn on this particular issue. However, he has again used his extensive experience and knowedge of the rules (he knew he could not use that language) to get attention and highlight his campaign. He is a class act and I wish he was my MP.

He assisted and is a member of the Party that took us in, bit late to protest now. Why didn't he resign when his party did that ?
