Bridge Talks Never Held

THANK you for reporting the letter of the Friends of Newport Transporter Bridge, regarding the seasonal closure of the bridge, to the cabinet member for leisure and culture .

We have urged reconsideration of the decision, particularly with regard to weekends and bank holidays. Bearing in mind the importance of the bridge to the industrial, social and engineering history of Newport, and the world-wide interest in this structure, we have been making this point since seasonal closure was proposed. We requested a meeting with the former cabinet member to discuss the matter. We even suggested that we had members willing and able to operate the bridge on a voluntary basis. The meeting was never held. We launched a petition because of the reaction of visitors when learning of the closure from October to Easter. I suggest you send a reporter to look at the comments in the Visitors’ Book from all over the world.

That's a great example of why this City is so poor, Labour don't give a monkeys about culture. We have here in this bridge a prime example of our great industrial heritage and they can't be bothered to listen - disgraceful
