We must help rescue airport

MANY residents from Gwent cross the border to fly from Bristol Airport rather than use Cardiff Airport for a trip abroad. This is because Cardiff Airport has seen a big reduction in destinations and low-cost airlines have also pulled out. Passenger numbers are down badly and action is needed to reverse that decline. The Spanish owners Abertis don’t seem to have much interest in reviving the airport, which is important for the Welsh economy. This means that the Welsh Government needs to take action to revive Cardiff Airport. Leanne Wood, the Leader of the Party of Wales, Plaid Cymru, has called for the government to take a financial stake in our airport. Perhaps with Welsh Government support, the fortunes of Cardiff Airport can be revived.

What? Spend taxpayers money to support an airport? The reason it's declining is that it doesn't have a big enough demographic. Bristol benefits from East Wales and a lot of the South West. We can't even get into Wales on a Friday because a relief for the M4 wasn't considered a priority. I can think of 101 better uses for the governments money than keeping an airport open where passengers have already voted with their feet.
