Political levy is voluntary

MR Andrew Thomas Nutt’s letter states “whose union gives millions of pounds to Labour every year?”.

Political levy paid by Trades Union members are totally voluntary. Every member is free to choose whether or not to contribute in this manner and for the said purpose. The same cannot be said for the contributions the majority of the public make to the Tory party via the CBI by contributing to the profits of the member companies. This is no less than compulsory. I would suggest that my chances of negotiating a reduction in the cost of my next purchase at a major company, on the basis that I do not want part of my payment to go to the Tories, would be somewhat less than a total failure. Two sides to every coin. It’s just that people need to look.

Tony Blair's Labour created more lords from the union barons. as a thank you for their finacial support. It is easier for members to stay in the political levy that it is to opt out. They wouldn't get blackballed by other members.

Mr Nutt the Plaid fanatic who hates the English and wants to break up the UK, his anti Uk beliefs are at worst racist and at best laughable. There are no differences between the English and so called Celts, a recent study showed that all parts the Uk had the same genetic make up, which shared acroos europe, so that leaves culture, which is created by communities and is always changing. The Nats live in la la land

Cllr Nigel Dix sided with Far right Tories, and supporter of UKIP and the BNP in the last Welsh Assembly referendum. Against his own party's advice. Cllr Dix could be called a British nationalist because he wants to keep the union together.

Anyone who signs themselves in as "Nig" on these exchanges might wish to consider changing their log-on name. Although, judging by the content and tone of some of his/her views, it might just be their extreme UKIP and British Nationalist tendencies coming through to the surface.
As far as employees 'voluntarily contributing part of their trade union membership to the Labour Party' - Tell it to the fairies.
This levy has been used to prop up Labour for years, even the most right wing New Labour that are no friends of the unions or the working classes.
