Saville: time to scrap the BBC

THE BBC, a supposed national institution with all the moral integrity that the title implies. Not content with risque story lines for its soap operas and bad language before the 9pm watershed, we now have the alleged behind-the-scenes immoral behaviour of one of its most famous personalities. If ever there was a reason for scrapping the television licence and making the BBC compete on a fairer footing with other broadcasters then this must be it. A Greenhalgh, Ross Street, Newport

It is long overdue that the TV licence went. The TV licence originated from the early days of TV. If you had a TV you watched the BBC

When commercial TV came about the stance changed that the BBC was PSB to try to justify keeping the licence.

The other stance used is the TV licence is for having a TV capable of recieving TV. A pretty weak argument when all the licvence fee goes to the BBC
