Wales deserves bigger voice

SOME of your Unionist readers think I’m anti English.

This is untrue. As a Welsh nationalist, I’m proud of Wales and all its supporting achievements, academic achievements and other achievements on the world stage. What really gets me is how Wales is unjustly represented by all three British parties in the London Parliament. Wales deserves better. Sadly, the Labour-led Welsh Assembly has no real powers to help Wales, thanks to Labour members who watered down the powers Wales should have.

Are you kidding? Wales is already the recipient of far more money than it generates. With the powers they have already they've achieved sod all. If all the money spent on the assembly was spent on hospitals we might not have such a lamentable health service. It can hike costs on industry to support the minority language (which all of us will pay for) but drags its feet over the things which matter. The 'carrier bag' joke has been much debated on here as the height of hypocrisy and I think there was some regulation on sunbirds to stop stupid people treating themselves like Christmas turkeys. Oh and we are talking the same AMs who needed instruction on how to ask questions? For over £50k a year? Give us a break.

As a result of the Scottish referendum he may sort of get his way.

REgardless of the result it is planned to move the UK to a more Federal structure. England would be split into about 9 Federal regions

This gives more accountability to the regions and will allow them to levy a local income tax.

The downside is that they have to live within there mean as Barnett will go.

It is planned to phase it in as Wales for example faces a massive reduction in funding so the plan is it to introduce it over 10 year with about a 10% reduction in funding each year. The WAG can of course level a local incomer tax in Wales to make up for the loss

A local income tax levied in Wales? So when the last few workers move to England..... I think even Baldrick can see the flaw in that plan :-)

If Wales gets all this extra money how come Wales is the poorest region within the Western EU. As the poorest children and OAP's in the UK. English paraliament has turned Wales into a benefit centre. Even English OAP's are retiring here because everything is so cheap. English unemployed are coming here because everything is so cheap. Only cheap to outsiders not to locals.

Could it be because the Assembly wastes it's time on carrier bags, the Welsh language and sunbeds when it should be sorting access by road and rail which would help development? The relief road for the M4 was first discussed in the 1990s and still nothing has happened. Several times last year I queued on the Severn Bridge for an hour and then another forty minutes at the tunnels just to get through Newport. If I was a potential employer in Wales I wouldn't come here at all.

THe handouts they claim are given us are funds every area in the UK gets not just Wales. The fact is Wales is deprived of its fair share of UK funding to the tune of billions, and Westminster also hives off funds given to Wales by Europe to redevelop Welsh poor areas by taking that funding total OFF what the rightful share is supposed to be.

E.G if we get 50m quid given by redevelopment funding for jobs in poor areas of Wales, then Westminster takes the exact amount AWAY from the rightful share we get every year, and, often CHARGE Wales for administering the cuts ! It's THEFT and Fraudulent accounting. They then have the cheek to suggest any extra funding NOT coming from them does, they lie as well ! Channelling fund support for Wales through Westminster is why we want OUT, so the money comes HERE without sticky fingers having a free dip first..

Poor old Wales.
It's been wrecked by useless politicians and corrupt councils.
It's a bad joke of which I was once proud.

Giving full power to the WAG including tax raising powers would be the final nail in the coffin for the Welsh Economy. I feel safer with the purse strings controlled by Westminster than Cardiff Bay. In actual fact there is and has always been the same budget from Westminster for Wales but now there is an additional tier of pseudo government to pay for out of that budget and for what? A carrier bag levy. Streuth!

1:47pm Wed 17 Oct 12 just shows how much you know of the powers the welsh assembly has. All the imortant issued like real jod creation, road, energy is not devolved and in covered by London. An English village parish has more powers thanks to the Labour memebrs who voted to water down the powers.

10:41am Fri 19 Oct 12 Wales have lived through Thatcher, Gordon Brown boom and bust, the A Darling and now the public school boys. You still want them to run Wales from London, have you not learned from history.

You trust the Tories'Labour in London with our money or Labour in Cardiff. Both are not very reliable, but at least you can vote out the cardiff lot.
