Birth control not the answer
5:07pm Wednesday 17th October 2012 in Letters
MRS D DAVIES is wrong to believe that the problem of world poverty can be solved by introducing birth control.
It cannot because contrary to popular opinion malnutrition and starvation are not the result of over-population, of poor climate or lack of cultivated land. The reason why hunger exists on such a vast scale is because world food supplies are controlled by the rich and powerful for the wealthy consumer. Terry Banfield, Cardigan Crescent, Cwmbran

The nature of many of these countries is that they have a harsh climate and floods & droughts are normal part of that climate. These countries can also only support a small population as the soil is too barren to grow crops on much of it.
The simple fact is the charities are trying to support a population that these countries cannot support. IT is doomed to disaster which is why we see when the natural style of droughts comes round the charities launching another famine relief campaign.
