Understanding our policing

I WRITE in reply to the letter printed from Jeff Cuthbert AM regarding the independency of the to be appointed PCC on November 15. While agreeing that Mr Johnston was a highly competent police officer both locally and nationally, he questions his ability to be Independent.

The same question could be asked of Mr Cuthburt’s preferred candidate. At the hustings recently organised and excellently run by the Victims Support held at Cwmbran, Mr Sandison agreed that he was a member of the Labour party and was standing on their ticket. Mr Johnston states: “I want to work with elected politicians, but for all the people of Gwent.” I am a supporter of Ian Johnston and knowing the man it will be all the people of Gwent who will have his ear. He fully understands the complex issue of policing in our county.

So the labour canditate has admited he is a member of the labour party. All elections are political and all candidates standing under political party banners are members of that party. Presumably you ave recently arrived in this country and were not aware of the realities of a functioning democracy.

Not like you to attack people who "ave" recently arrived in this country of Wales, as your comments are normally informative and above this level.
