SEVEN CORNERS: The challenge to ‘Throw Mel off the Blorenge’ in a bid to raise money for charity has had to be delayed because of uncertain weather.
It had been planned to push Mel Rogers, a trustee of the Seven Corners centre in Abergavenny, and axis paragliding expert, Steve Milson, off the mountain strapped together, but they have had to postpone the daring 1,800-foot drop.
“Steve has not been available and the weather was not favourable,” said Mel, who expects to make the charity drop by the end of the month.
Money raised from the exploit will eventually go towards an extension to the centre, planning permission for which has been obtained by the trustees of The Bridge to Cross Trust. Mel and his colleagues need to raise a further £3,000-£4,000 through sponsored events in a bid to reach a total of £43,000, which will pay for the total cost of building and fitting out the extension.
They have already received a £27,000 grant and other donations. In the meantime, a new prayer room has been opened and, for one week, it was used night and day by the young people who are cared for at the centre. Staff hope to repeat the experiment.
Anyone who can help to raise funds can contact the ‘Bridge to Cross Trust’ at Seven Corners Centre, 1-3 Seven Corners Lane, Abergavenny, NP7 5AX.
