A party of 21 Germans from Berlin arrived in Abergavenny last week in time for the annual Food Festival.
On Wednesday, they were entertained to afternoon tea at the mayor's parlour at Abergavenny Town Hall by the mayor and mayoress, cllr John and Mrs Christine Prosser, and the following day met pupils from Cantref Primary School.
The visit was a joint collaboration between Jane White, a former teacher at Cantref School, and Elke Dittrich, who first met Mrs White when a mutual friend was staying with her in Abergavenny.
Fraulein Dittrich teaches English to a group of over 50s, and she had been so impressed on her previous visit to Abergavenny that she told them about it and the group decided to have a look for themselves.
Cllr Prosser welcomed his guests and told them something of Abergavenny's history and traditions, and pointed out some of the memorabilia adorning the walls of the parlour.
They include the official twinning documents signed by the Abergavenny mayor at the time the town twinned with Oestringen in Germany 40 years ago, Beaupreau in France 20 years ago and Sarno in Italy ten years ago.
